My work includes the 'language lead' for specific clients, as well as all kind of language related tasks in the localisation process, such as terminology research, translating, reviewing, translation memory maintanance, query logs, but also some more technical parts as e.g. checking the integrity of tags in translated documents or testing of localised software.

February 2001 - July 2002
Linguistic software developer in the language
pair development English -> Chinese for the Sail Labs machine
translation system at Sail Labs (MT technology now in the hands of Lucy Software), Barcelona (Spain).
The
MT system is based on the METAL technology. It is transfer based and the rules ("lingware") are written in a LISP-like programming language. My work consisted
mainly in setting up (and refining) approaches to treatment of
specific grammatical phenomena and implementing them in English
-> Chinese transfer and Chinese generation by writing (and
refining) the correspondent program code. Moreover, I participated in design and creation of the Chinese monolingual and English/Chinese bilingual lexical databases.
May 2000 - September 2000
Freelance at Sail Labs (MT technology now in the hands of Lucy Software),
Munich (Germany), in a project to build up a term substitution tool
for domain sensitive information extraction from Chinese text
resources.
My task consisted mainly in establishing a
domain specific trilingual lexicon German-English-Chinese and
finding English/Chinese parallel texts in the internet as well as
testing the functionality of the tool and writing test reports.

Konstanz) "Chinese and Computing"
With this course I aimed at giving students
knowledge in the following areas: A basic overview of how
to find China-related information (business, language, news,
etc.) and an introduction on how to install and use Chinese software in order to read and write
Chinese documents. For more information, please see Chinese and
Computing WS 1999/2000(in German)

Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology and German
enterprises on Chinese language processing and terminology in the
Center for international Terminology and applied Linguistics (CiTaL) at
Constance University of Applied Sciences (Fachhochschule
Konstanz).
The most important project consisted in
creating an online database with more than 300.000
German/English/Chinese technical terms (offline at present). Some of my key tasks were: Negotiations with Chinese partners, conducting projects in the field of technical translation (German into Chinese) for German enterprises (Deutsche Telekom AG, Volkswagen AG), organising cooperation and scientific exchange with
Chinese scientists (linguistics, computational linguistics)
